"The Big Scoop" campaign starts from today Friday 14th June. Get involved!

We absolutely support "The Big Scoop" - a campaign organised by "Dogs Trust" and "Keep Britain Tidy" to urge owners to clear up after their pets. It is our business to clear up after the dogs we look after but we are so dismayed when others just can't be bothered. It is wrong that our streets and parks are becoming filthy.......so please support this great campaign by spreading the word.

We are a nation of dog-lovers. There are some 8 million dogs in the UK and 39% of households own at least one dog. Unfortunately, although the vast majority of dog owners are responsible and pick up after their pets, a small minority refuse to do the right thing and the consequence is that pavements, parks, sports pitches and beaches can be blighted by dog mess, which is offensive and potentially dangerous.

Up and down the country local authorities spend millions of pounds each year on cleaning up dog mess and many communities are suffering the consequences of the minority of those irresponsible dog owners.

The Big Scoop is an opportunity to remind every dog owner that they need to ‘Bag it and bin it’ and here are the guidelines:

Always carry something to clean up after your dog, such as plastic bags.

If you have a garden, train your pet to go there and clean up straight away.

Pay attention to signs and respect your local authority's rules on dog-free areas.

Politely encourage guilty owners you meet to do their duty - offer them one of your bags.
Causing embarrassment gets better results and is safer than abuse.

You don't need to wait until you find a red dog waste bin - you can dispose of bags of dog dirt in any bin.

Hanging bags on tree branches or dropping them by the side of the path is unacceptable

Don't rely on the rain to wash dog mess away - this is simply a lazy excuse.

Speak to your vet about getting your dog wormed. They will be able to advise on the products available and how often your dog needs treating.
